Effects of Insomnia
Image via WikipediaInsomnia has been a common problem of the people in their middle age. As you age, the quality of sleep reduces for both men and women but is more prevalent in women. The reasons for insomnia vary form each individual but the effects of insomnia are the same. Depending on the severity of the symptoms, lack of sleep can often disrupt your mental and physical capabilities to function properly.
Sleep is very important to allow your mind and body to regain its lost energy throughout the day. Depriving your body with enough sleep will have a lot of impact to your mind and body which will cause it to deteriorate. Without enough sleep, you will feel very tired and restless. Your energy levels are reduced because your body was not able to rejuvenate throughout the night. Lack of energy will hinder your ability to perform well in your job. Your mental functions are also affected as well as your concentration. Simple tasks are difficult to handle because the ability of your mind to focus, concentrate and remember are affected by the lack of sleep. Performance level in school or workplace drops because of insomnia.
Dizziness, slowed reflexes and mood changes are also effects of insomnia. Lack of sleep makes you irritable and your senses are blunted. You easily lose your temper and flare up even on simplest things. You can’t react immediately to situations which causes you to become prone to accidents. Driving and operating machineries are not advisable to persons suffering from insomnia. This will peril your safety for your attention, concentration and reflexes are affected. Insomnia also perils your health. Lack of quality sleep will weaken your immune system and makes you susceptible to illness and viruses.
Insomnia though a symptom of other medical condition, if not dealt with properly earlier will become chronic. Chronic insomnia may even lead to emotional and psychological problems.
